Engine Oil: The do's and do not's

It seems very soon after the last post to be writing another but based on events it seemed necessary.
After relaxing in the comfort of a bed in the chalet I woke up feeling in a much better way than yesterday. So after packing everything up I thought it'd be best to just top the car's oil up as a quick 5 minute job before we left.
As diligent mechanics we brought about 7 litres of engine oil for the car which had been nicely stowed away right at the bottom of the boot. Common sense would probably tell most people that bottles of oil placed at the bottom of a heavy pile of luggage is a recipe for disaster but apparently not myself. With plenty of space left on the roof rack I had instead checked quickly that if you turned them upside down they didn't leak and then preceded to put them in the boot...
The 2 litre puddle of oil I found when I went to unpack the boot this morning has probably taught me my lesson. The half full bottle of oil had leaked at some point yesterday and whole boot was swimming in the very best 5W-30 Synthetic Engine Oil.

Clean Up Operation
Somehow, and very luckily, there was actually very few things sat directly in the puddle but it still took us an hour to mop it all out and then wash out the boot with soapy water. A few unimportant items got binned, we are now 2 litres of oil lighter, and with the remaining 5 litres now on the roof we actually have extra space in the car; so all in all I'm putting it down as a complete success!
