Thunderbirds Are Go

It has begun. On Saturday we arrived at Goodwood motor circuit for the pre rally launch party, and I was still naively thinking this would all be one big jolly. Two 6am starts, and 1000 miles of sweating in our slow cooker of a car, later and I realise how stupid I was.

On Sunday morning (Day 1) we crawled out of our tent slightly hungover and very tired. A bacon bap and a cup of tea later and before I knew it I was sat on Thunderbird 4 on the roof of the car. Sadly, they wouldn't let me go round the lap of the track like this, but with the amount it wobbled just driving to the start line like this I reckon it may have been for the best.

Happy to be out of the car and not listening to that bloody theme tune!

Going slightly insane after listening to the Thunderbirds theme tune on repeat so many times, we finally set off; driving to Dover to hop on a ferry before driving the rest of the day through France. We made it as far as Reims before 10pm when most campsites stopped accepting people. Not accounting for how long it would take to find a campsite we eventually got lucky showing up at one where everything was closed but there was somewhere to park just outside. We stayed and left early and never saw anyone who worked there so we just left a few euros each as a rough payment.

Another day of driving later and we have now made it to the Alps where we are staying in my parents chalet. It kind of feels like cheating but a last little bit of comfort is appreciated after sitting in the greenhouse that is our car all day in 30 degree heat.

Tomorrow we set off for Munich, where Will has promised to show us round as he lived there for a year. Beer houses sound like a great way to spend the evening to me although I can't say I'm looking forward to another day of motorways. It's not even that I get bored in the car it's just the lack of time to spend anywhere we get to. But all the rushing across Europe should be worth it so we can spend more time in some of the stranger countries we go to.
