Last Minute Preparations

The fact that I'm writing this at 2:00am, two days before we arrive at Goodwood for the rally launch, probably shows the emphasis on the phrase 'last minute'. Funnily though, even with a large list of things still to do, I am far calmer about the situation than I was just a few days ago. To give you some perspective this was the car on Monday:

And then on Tuesday:

And then somehow by Wednesday:

If I had to try and put my finger on exactly what it is that makes me feel so much better now I'd have to say it is probably the whole having four wheels attached. I think we have a better chance of getting there that way I suppose.

The side effect of all this work on the car is that packing my own things went largely out the window recently, and I have only got as far as a massive pile of stuff in my front room so far. In my defence packing for a trip like this is a little more complex than your usual holiday; with the brief to pack as light as possible whilst having enough for two months away in cities, deserts, mountain ranges, and pretty much every other environment there is. Oh and you also need camping and cooking gear and everything to fix a broken down car.

So not easy, and this is before you even get to the documents you need to take so you don't get turned away at the first border. I remember naively thinking months ago how I would make sure to look up a few useful phrases for each country and print these out as a nice little phrase book. Instead, I am just realising as I write this that I still haven't even printed off my ferry booking confirmation for Dover-Calais.

Another thing added to the 'To Do List' but we are getting there eventually, and it will all be worth it once we roll up to the start line; probably with no socks or shirts, but at least with a passport in hand and two months of mayhem finally beginning.
